The 5K Monitor
Built for Mac

The BenQ MA270S is a 27-inch 5K monitor designed from the ground up for Mac users. Its 5,120 × 2,880 resolution at 218 PPI elevates text rendering to a new level — characters stay sharp and crisp during long reading and writing sessions, reducing eye strain over time.

The IPS panel covers 99% of DCI-P3 and 99% of sRGB, while the 2,000:1 contrast ratio far exceeds the IPS norm of around 1,000:1, giving photos and video true-looking blacks. The "Nano Gloss" surface treatment is BenQ's proprietary coating that retains the vivid colour pop of a glossy panel while cutting down on reflections.

Mac integration is the headline feature. Install the companion app Display Pilot 2 and your Mac's keyboard controls the monitor's brightness and volume directly. The display also syncs with macOS Focus Mode, automatically switching colour profiles when you toggle it on or off. A built-in ambient light sensor keeps brightness optimised as lighting conditions change throughout the day.

The main input is Thunderbolt 4 (96 W charging), so a single cable connects your MacBook Pro or MacBook Air and keeps it charged at full speed. The daisy-chain output (15 W pass-through) means you can chain Mac → MA270S → second monitor using just one Thunderbolt port. Also on board: a USB-A × 2 / USB-C × 1 hub and a KVM switch to share one keyboard and mouse across multiple computers.

Ergonomics match premium competitors: 150 mm height adjustment, ±20° tilt, ±15° swivel and 90° pivot for portrait mode. The built-in 3 W × 2 speakers handle video calls and background music without an external speaker. Note that the refresh rate is fixed at 70 Hz, so fast-paced FPS gaming is not a strength.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the BenQ MA270S work with Windows or iPad?

Yes — you can connect via HDMI 2.1 or USB-C. Mac-exclusive features like brightness/volume key sync and Focus Mode integration via Display Pilot 2 are not available on Windows or iPad. On Windows it functions as a standard monitor.

What does a 70 Hz refresh rate mean? Is it good for gaming?

70 Hz means the display refreshes 70 times per second — sufficient for document editing, photo work and web browsing. Fast-paced FPS games may feel less smooth. If high refresh rate matters most, consider options like the ASUS ROG XG27JCG (180 Hz).

Does the BenQ MA270S support HDR?

There is no HDR certification, and the 500-nit peak brightness means the display is designed for SDR use. HDR content from Netflix or Apple TV+ will be tone-mapped to SDR. For true HDR, consider the Apple Studio Display XDR 2026 (2,000 nits peak).

What is the daisy-chain feature?

Daisy chaining lets you run a single Thunderbolt 4 cable from your Mac to the MA270S, then pass video and up to 15 W of power downstream to a second monitor — all without using an extra Mac port. Note the downstream power is capped at 15 W; check your second monitor's requirements.

Does the BenQ MA270S have built-in speakers?

Yes, the MA270S includes 3 W × 2 built-in speakers — adequate for video calls and background music. Compared to the Apple Studio Display's 6-speaker array the soundstage and bass are more modest. For high-fidelity audio, external speakers are recommended.
